Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic speaks highly of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah ahead of the EFL Cup final on Sunday
In conversation with ESPN, Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic shares his thoughts on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah ahead of the Carabao Cup final this Sunday.
The 23-year-old attacker has struggled with injury issues during his time at Chelsea but has put on a number of impressive performances over the past few seasons. The USA International got on the scoresheet in our latest UEFA Champions League fixture against LOSC Lille and this could be a timely boost for him heading into the League Cup final on Sunday.
That being said, the Blues will also have to be wary of the threat Liverpool possesses. The Reds are in blistering form at the moment having trashed Leeds United 6-0 in their latest Premier League fixture. Mo Salah got on the scoresheet twice, albeit from the penalty spot, but had a superb match overall.
Speaking to ESPN, Christian Pulisic highlighted the fact that the 29-year-old Egyptian has been playing at a really high level and could be considered in the debate involving the best of the best in the world.
“He is an incredible player. As far as the Premier League goes this season, he has generally been up there with the best. There’s definitely a lot to look up to and I can learn from him. He’s a great goal-scorer, really strong, he does a lot of things well that people don’t even realise to get him into position to score these goals. He’s someone I can learn from.”
Mo Salah, best in the world?
Pulisic’s comments do make sense and it is obvious that we would have to be at our best to keep the ex-AS Roma winger at bay. Salah usually plays down the right flank, at least on paper, and it seems like it would be down to Marcos Alonso- if he plays- to keep the Egyptian quiet.
Salah, of course, played for Chelsea in the past. He joined us from FC Basel in the 2014 winter transfer window but never really had the chance to impress, having only made 19 senior appearances for us in that time. Instead, he headed out to Serie A on a couple of loan spells before finally finding his new home at Anfield.
The Blues have already gotten their hands on the FIFA Club World Cup this month and an important victory against the French champions in the Champions League would see them riding high on morale at the moment. Pulisic himself would be hoping to nail down a position after a memorable performance against Lille at Stamford Bridge.
The West Londoners have had to face their fair share of injury issues this term with both first-choice wing-back Reece James and Ben Chilwell being unavailable for large parts of the campaign. The injury issues coupled with several Covid issues have made it difficult to sustain the momentum that the club had created early on in the PL race.
Manchester City and Liverpool now look like the runaway favourites for the Premier League this season but the London-based club still has a shot of getting their hands on another illustrious trophy this campaign before the end of February.

Defeating the Reds won’t be an easy task considering the kind of firepower that they have at their disposal. That being said, Thomas Tuchel and his men will have to step up to the plate and put on a stellar performance if they are to clinch the coveted domestic trophy. This feat, if achieved, would be made even sweeter considering our bitter rivalry with the Merseyside club.
