According to Daily Mail Online, the latest injury news on Liverpool have been released ahead of their clash against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final. The match will take place on Sunday at the Wembley Stadium as both teams look to stamp their dominance in English football.
Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have injury concerns in the build-up to the game on Sunday, having picked up problems during their 2-0 victory against Inter Milan recently. Firmino will certainly miss the match against the Blues due to the damage to his adductor muscle.
Jota, on the other hand, is much more of a probable cause and could make it in time if certain conditions are met moving forward. He suffered an issue on his ankle ligaments but is on track to feature against Thomas Tuchel‘s side. However, he still needs to clear the two training sessions on Friday and Saturday to get into the matchday squad.
Firmino’s absence is a massive one, even if he has taken a backseat following the arrival of Jota. Despite his reduced prominence, the 30-year-old has been solid this season as well, having scored eight goals alongside four assists across all competitions.
While the update on Jota is a positive one for the Reds, he could still be out of contention depending on how his recovery develops in the coming days. Even in the best-case scenario, the Portuguese international will only make it into the bench, which will give us a major boost due to Firmino’s situation as well.
Their two other options, namely Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, have not fared well despite their flashes of brilliance. We could not get a piece of better news at this point, especially after the update we had on Hakim Ziyech, Mateo Kovacic, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
That being said, we cannot afford to become lacklustre since Jurgen Klopp’s side will always pose a stern challenge despite their injury troubles. That was highlighted in their recent 6-0 thumping of Leeds United, which should give us enough of a warning sign about their quality.
Only time will tell who will be the victors of the EFL Cup final, but we are hopeful of being on the winning side. We have got used to winning knockout competitions under Tuchel, so we should look to use that “advantage” to get the better of our opponents on Sunday.
