According to the Daily Express, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed his conversation with owner Roman Abramovich after his team’s FIFA Club World Cup win over Palmeiras.
Right after the final whistle following a gruelling 120 minutes of action, Roman Abramovich entered the field and high-fived Thomas Tuchel with a big smile on his face. The German manager certainly deserved that after leading his team to another trophy in just over a year at the club.
The Blues defeated Palmeiras in the final of the coveted tournament with the help of a decisive penalty from Kai Havertz. After delivering the breakthrough in the Champions League final, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen playmaker stepped up to the plate and scored yet another historic goal for the club.
Russian businessman Roman Abramovich became the club’s owner a little under two decades ago. The Blues gradually became a European heavyweight following some much-needed investment into the team by their new owner.
Jose Mourinho’s appointment took the club to new heights and from thereon, Chelsea established themselves as an English giant. Fast forward to 2022, and we have won every major competition under the sun during the Russian’s tenure.
In the post-match conference, Tuchel revealed he dedicated the win to Abramovich because without his vision, the task was a distant dream.
“There is no doubt it’s for him [Abramovich]. We met shortly on the pitch after the final — I said congratulations, and he said congratulations. I said, ‘It’s for you, it’s your club, and it’s your input passion that made this possible. We are happy to be part of it. Of course, the trophy is for him.”
Abramovich has been notably involved in Chelsea’s managerial hirings and firings, taking a keen interest in our football club’s exploits on the pitch. He clearly ushered in an era we could not have dreamt of before he bought the club. Two-time Champions of Europe, we are now the Champions of the World.
Abramovich has made our team a powerhouse in the transfer market, and Tuchel has worked well to bring the Russian tycoon’s vision to life on the pitch. The partnership has been beneficial for both parties until now and if the ex-PSG boss continues at this pace, he may well last for a long time as our manager.
