Injury News: Chelsea first-team ace injured ahead of FIFA Club World Cup

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount suffers injury ahead of pivotal FIFA Club World Cup fixture

According to Football.London, Chelsea ace Mason Mount has suffered an injury in the FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle. This could leave him unavailable for the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup against either Al Hilal or Al Jazira.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has been sensational for the Blues over the last couple of seasons. He came into the limelight under former manager Frank Lampard and has since cemented his place in the first team at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea academy product has made his way through the ranks and has already amassed 139 appearances for the first team.

The West London club had already suffered a setback with their manager Thomas Tuchel contracting Covid-19 in the leadup to the game against Plymouth. Apart from Mount, they already have a list of injuries to players like Ben Chilwell, Reece James, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. With games coming thick and fast, it is imperative that we avoid any injuries to key players.

Mason Mount and his impact at Chelsea?

Lampard’s time with the Blues lacked success in terms of trophies but saw several youngsters make the cut at the senior level. While the club could not bring any incoming players the Chelsea legend helped mould some of the youngsters and gave them suitable opportunities to thrive in the senior squad.

Players like Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham rose to the occasion. Whilst Abraham was shipped off to AS Roma, Mount had already become an integral part of the London-based club. He also played a pivotal part in securing the UEFA Champions League last season where he provided the assist for Kai Havertz in what turned out to be the solitary goal that helped them bag the UEFA Champions League title.

23-year-old Mount midfielder started the clash against the Pilgrims but had to be substituted in the 96th minute as he sustained an injury that could keep him out of contention in the immediate future. The FIFA Club World Cup is an important competition and the unavailability of a star like Mount could be a big blow for the Blues.
