In an interview with the official Chelsea website, 23-year-old Chelsea star Mason Mount shared his thoughts about the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup

The Blues are competing in several competitions this season. The West Londoners will be playing the Carabao Cup final later on in the month and managed to scrape through to the next round of FA Cup thanks to the heroics of Kepa Arrizabalaga in extra time.

Mount had to be taken off in the 96th minute of the match against Plymouth Argyle after sustaining a knock. Despite an injury concern the English professional footballer made it to the squad that will travel to Abu Dhabi for their upcoming Club World Cup fixture against Al-Hilal

The Stamford Bridge outfit have never won the competition before in their history. They managed to reach the finals in 2012 under the guidance of former manager Rafa Benitez only to be beaten by Brazilian club Corinthians. The Blues will get a shot at redemption this time under Thomas Tuchel.

In his interview, Mason highlighted that the squad’s focus is always on the next game and the club really wants to get its hands on the coveted trophy. Doing so will see them join an elite list of English clubs to have achieved world club cup glory.

‘Our focus is always on the next game because they come thick and fast but we really want to win this tournament. We haven’t ever won it as a club so we want to win it, like every competition we’re in. We want to have that winning mentality and hopefully, it will be a good trip for us.’

Mason Mount and Chelsea

The London-based club have had great success across several competitions ever since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge. The former Borussia Dortmund manager succeeded Frank Lampard who had a difficult time as manager of the Blues.

Despite his difficult time at Stamford Bridge, Lampard helped pave the way for the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount to make it into the first-team regularly. Since then Abraham has been shipped off to AS Roma but Mount remains an important part of our midfield under Tuchel.

The Blues have been on an excellent run having won the UEFA Champions League last season and the UEFA Super Cup last year. They started the Premier League in fine fashion but have struggled to maintain that same level of consistency in England’s top-flight at the moment.

It is a great dream for every youngster to pick up silverware with his boyhood club. The English midfielder has had the opportunity to do that but the Club World can be the perfect cherry on the cake considering that Chelsea has never won the competition in their illustrious history.
