Chelsea loanee Armando Broja got on the scoresheet and helped Southampton record an important 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The victory further dented Spurs’ hopes of making a top-four finish this season.
The 20-year-old striker has been a great revelation for the Saints and has done an amazing job in replacing Danny Ings this season who left to join Aston Villa. The Albanian professional footballer scored the first goal for Southampton in the 23rd minute against the Lilywhites on the night to set up what would be an exciting showdown.
Broja was a nuisance for the Lilyhwhites throughout the game as he kept getting behind their backline time and time again. The young striker had a couple more chances to hit the back of the net but lacked composure in those instances but at 20, the forward still has a long way to go and is showing signs of being a world-beater someday.
Ralf Hassenhutl has not been shy in showcasing his support for the youngster this campaign. The young forward has already managed to score eight goals and provide one assist in 23 games for the Saints across all competitions this season.
Tottenham are currently placed seventh in the Premier League table. The North London side are four places behind Chelsea at the moment but still have a few games in hand over their London rivals. The Lilywhites would be aiming to finish in the top four this season to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League after being knocked out in the early stages of the UEFA Conference League this season.
Armando Broja has been putting in some really great performances this campaign and is starting to cement a spot at Southampton. His performance against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur is testimony to the kind of potential that he possesses at the moment.
Whilst the loanee is impressing at Southampton, the Blues are struggling in the attacking department at the moment. Even though Romelu Lukaku scored a crucial goal against Saudi side Al Hilal in the Club World Cup fixture, the Belgian international has failed to deliver consistently and live up to the price tag for which he was acquired.
Timo Werner hasn’t been able to replicate the form that he showed in his previous club. Should their difficult run continue, Thomas Tuchel may well be tempted to bring back Broja from his loan spell to add more reinforcements to the attacking department.
It would also give the Blues the ability to rotate the squad but at the same time could prove to be a big hindrance for Broja, who has been receiving some quality first-team minutes with the Saints. A young Chelsea loanee playing a pivotal role in defeating arch-rivals Spurs would be music to the ears of the fans and we would be hoping that the 20-year-old can continue to develop at this rate.
Only time can tell whether or not the youngster becomes a regular starter in the Chelsea squad in the years to come but the signs are promising and the West Londoners could have a gem on their hands.
