Chelsea midfielder Jorginho reveals his interest to play under Pep Guardiola
Speaking with Ale Oliveira via Youtube (h/t Football.London), After claiming that he was close to a Manchester City move, Chelsea star Jorginho admitted that he still has a desire to play for Pep Guardiola.
Jorginho did take some time to adapt to Chelsea’s system, but he has developed himself into one of the top midfield players in the world in recent months. He has become a crucial part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans after the German took over. Having said that, history could look very different if the Brazilian star got his dream move.
In a recent interview with the Italian media outfit, the EURO 2020 winner revealed that he was closer to a move to Manchester City than Stamford Bridge in 2018.
“A bid arrived and… you don’t know, man. I’m not going to say it. No, I’m kidding. I wasn’t supposed to come to Chelsea, man. I was supposed to have arrived at another club. Another English club. But it’s not a secret. If you put it on the internet, you find it. It’s Manchester City.”
The 30-year-old midfielder revealed that he is a big fan of Pep Guardiola and has a desire to play under the Spaniard in the future. Already in his thirties, it remains to be seen if it is something that will come to fruition.
“I have a dream to play under Guardiola. I don’t know if it will [happen]. But yeah, he’s a reference. When I was a kid, watching his Barcelona win everything with Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta.”
In an earlier interview, the 30-year-old star also suggested that he would be open to a comeback to his former team, Napoli. However, Jorginho also added that when he heard the name of Chelsea, he gave the go-ahead to his entourage to complete the deal.
Jorginho played a huge role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph and Italy’s Euro 2020 success last year. His success last season was a redemption arc of sorts given the criticism levied towards him in recent years. Jorginho showed that in the right system, he can play a key role.
