“Never disappoints”- Cech reveals the key to ‘honest’ Azpilicueta’s success at Chelsea

Chelsea legend Petr Cech praises captain Cesar Azpilicueta for ‘never disappointing’

Speaking to the club’s official website, former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has showered praise on club captain Cesar Azpilicueta for always being reliable, consistent, and never disappointing anyone.

Azpilicueta lifted the FIFA Club World Cup recently, and this made him the first player in the Blues’ history to win all trophies available to him at the club level. Not even club legends like Cech or John Terry were able to achieve this milestone.

Cech, who won 4 Premier Leagues with Chelsea, said that Azpiliceuta was a manager’s dream because he had all the qualities that they looked for in a player as well as a captain.

“No matter which manager was in charge, they all knew they could count on him, his attitude, and his qualities. Now he has the huge reward of lifting these trophies as a captain.”

Petr Cech has praised Cesar Azpilicueta as a player who never disappoints.

The skipper joined Chelsea in 2012 as a relative unknown from Marseille, but Azpilicueta has become a fan favourite over the years and is now one of the club’s most decorated players after a trophy-laden career with the west London club.

Never disappoints

In the past year, Azpilicueta has led the club to a Champions League, Super Cup, and a Club World Cup trophy along with manager Thomas Tuchel. The German must also be given credit for getting the best out of his players, including the captain.

Cech credited the Spaniard for being a reliable player and said that the key to Azpiliceuta’s success at Chelsea was down to his honesty and hard work. The defender is also versatile, playing in different positions at the back when needed.

“He is one of those players who never disappoints you. He works hard, he does everything. He is an honest player on the pitch, and off the pitch he works hard. You know you can rely on him in any situation. That is the key to his success.”

Azpilicueta is widely loved by all the fans of the club, specifically for the traits that Cech mentioned about the Spain international. We have seen the defender grow from being a reliable player to a club captain over the years, and disappointment is one word we can never attribute to the 32-year-old.

Cech knows exactly what it takes to become a Chelsea legend, with the former goalkeeper being a serial winner at the club. Azpilicueta seems to have followed in Cech’s footsteps and gone one step further with winning a trophy the shot-stopper could never get his hands on.

The club captain has chances to add more trophies to his cabinet by the end of the season, with the FA Cup and Champions League still to be won. His eyes will currently be on the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool later this month where he could play down the right-hand side once again if Reece James is sidelined until then.

Chelsea are in action against Crystal Palace in the league tomorrow, and all eyes will be on Azpilicueta to once again lead the team out for the game. After their title charge was derailed due to injury and Covid concerns, Tuchel will be looking to finish the season strongly and consolidate their top-four position in the league.
