Chelsea could opt out against signing Declan Rice and bet on Conor Gallagher
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are planning to promote Conor Gallagher to the first team at the price of not moving for Declan Rice transfer in the summer transfer window.
Declan Rice has long been a heavy transfer target for Chelsea. The English midfielder who spent considerable time at the famous Cobham academy has shown incredible skills to justify Blues’ pursuit. With four goals, four assists in 31 appearances and some major game-winning performances from the crucial area of the pitch, he has proven his importance in this term.
However, he is not the only midfielder wreaking havoc at the Premier League. Conor Gallagher, who also is a Chelsea academy star, has become the leading man for Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace. He has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 24 appearances, which puts him in the high performing attacking-midfielders group.
Now it is believed that Chelsea want to promote Gallagher to the first team as a viable option for Thomas Tuchel. Confidence in the player appears to be high with Marina Granovskaia’s board willing to drop interest in Rice for the coming summer window.
Chelsea are also keeping an eye on Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, who is performing at a top-level in the French league. However, the Blues current midfielder’s availability would heavily influence their next window’s transfer approach.
N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have all been key players for us over the years. So, if none of them leaves the club, the newcomers would face significant problems securing good game time under Thomas Tuchel.
A good decision?
Declan Rice has already become a star player, and his value has increased exponentially in the last few years. Furthermore, there is massive competition for his services with Manchester United among those in the fray. Therefore the midfielder’s price could skyrocket in the summer window, making him a potentially expensive acquisition.

However, Chelsea already have three star midfielders in the team. So, it’d be foolish to think Rice would only come to Stamford Bridge to remain in the shadows. On the other hand, Gallagher is very young and could flourish playing beside the other Blues midfielder. He could become a solution for our midfield. The best part is we would be avoiding paying a high transfer fee by promoting our academy star.
