According to Football.London, Arsenal are keeping an eye on Chelsea starlet Armando Broja who is currently playing on loan at Southampton. Mikel Arteta is thought to be a keen admirer of the youngster.
The 20-year-old is having an impressive loan spell with the Saints this season. He has already managed to score eight goals and provide one assist in 24 matches across all competitions for Southampton. Ralph Hasenhüttl has been
The youngster’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed and now, Arsenal are monitoring his situation. The North Londoners have had their own issues up front this season. The Gunners weren’t able to land Dusan Vlahovic, who eventually joined Juventus. The London-based club also had to let go of veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who made a surprise move to Barcelona in January.
While Arsenal still have the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, there has been some speculation regarding their long-term future at the club with their contracts coming to a halt this summer. The 39-year-old manager has trusted Arsenal’s youngsters to a great extent ever since replacing Unai Emery and Broja could be the next starlet he can look to nurture at the Emirates.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Albanian international is attracting interest. The youngster has proven himself on the big stage and a blazing recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur highlights the kind of potential that he possesses.
It would, however, be a surprise to many fans if the Blues let go of one of their most exciting youngsters to a direct rival. It would be even harder to digest considering the fact that the Blues have their own attacking struggles at the moment. Romelu Lukaku managed to get crucial goals in the FIFA Club World Cup but has struggled to show the same form in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League.
Timo Werner is another attacker who continues to yearn for the form he showed at his previous club. With Tammy Abraham no longer with us after his move to AS Roma last summer, Chelsea could use someone like Broja right now.
The 20-year-old has gone toe to toe with some of the top clubs in the PL this season and has done a great job of replacing Danny Ings at Saint Mary’s. Lukaku is also approaching his 30s and Broja could be a solid understudy to the ex-Manchester United and Everton striker.
Broja has been developing at a steady pace under the tutelage of Hasenhüttl, whose club showed interest in signing the Albanian last month. Our fans can make peace if he leaves us for the Saints but seeing him do well for a direct rival in Arsenal would certainly boil their blood for years to come.
