A View From The Bridge

28-year-old Chelsea star sends out positive message ahead of Club World Cup fixture

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger sends strong message ahead of their semi-final clash in the FIFA Club World Cup

In a tweet by Antonio Rudiger, the Chelsea star has sent an important message to the fans and his teammates before their FIFA Club World Cup fixture.

The Blues have a packed schedule this month with several matches on the trot and very little rest. The 28-year-old is part of the squad that has travelled to UAE to take on Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup semifinals. It can be difficult to keep up the spirits with such a congested run of games but the German international seems to be ready for action.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Rudiger’s future at the club. His current contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season and the London-based club is trying their best to tie him down for a longer time. It is no secret that Thomas Tuchel holds the former AS Roma defender in high regard.

The defender however is not letting the uncertainty about his future impact his commitment to the club on it. He posted a picture with fellow teammates Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic on Twitter and appears to be ready for the upcoming set of fixtures.

Despite the rumour mill, the German centre-back hasn’t let the off-field talk affect his on-field performance. He has become a dependable asset at the back and his dominating aerial presence has helped create a solid defensive base. His latest message reiterates the fact that he is still willing to give his best on the field for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea and their history with the coveted competition

The West London club have won some of the most prestigious tournaments across Europe and England in their rich history. Despite their exploits, the Blues still haven’t managed to secure the Club World Cup to date. They came close to winning the competition in 2012 under former manager Rafa Benitez but failed at the final hurdle and were defeated by Brazilian club Corinthians.

Antonio Rudiger is all set for Chelsea’s clash in the FIFA Club World Cup

The London-based club could get another chance at securing the trophy under Tuchel. The 48-year-old manager has pushed the club in the right direction ever since arriving at Stamford Bridge. He helped the club clinch the UEFA Champions League last season and the UEFA Super Cup last year.

Despite injury scares and Covid issues the former Borussia Dortmund manager has also guided them to the final of the EFL Cup this campaign which will be played later in the month against fellow arch-rival Liverpool. The lure of silverware would be great for any club but the Club World Cup could hold even more importance as the Blues have never won it in their long and illustrious history.
