Transfer News: Chelsea set to recall Kenedy from Flamengo with loan spell set to be terminated
According to @soyyleticia via Fabrizio Romano, Kenedy is set to be recalled from his loan spell by Chelsea and will move to London in the coming hours.
Kenedy joined Chelsea in 2015 but only made 15 Premier League appearances before departing on a loan move. The Brazilian spent minor spells at Watford and Newcastle and gained experience playing in Spain for Getafe and Granada. Making his last appearance in the Blues shirt in 2016, the 25-year-old seems to be a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge.
However, in his recent spell with Flamengo, the wing-back has shown considerable improvements, which might have attracted the eyes of the Chelsea board.
Fabrizio Romano claims Kenedy’s current loan contract with the Brazilian side has been terminated, and the player is moving back to West London to get a resolution on his next move. The Italian transfer expert also suggested Thomas Tuchel would take the final say on the player’s future – which could be another loan spell.
Chelsea have been pushed on the back foot for the last few months due to injury concerns. With Ben Chilwell out of action, Marcos Alonso is the only recognised left wing-back option for Thomas Tuchel, and the situation will remain that way for the remainder of the season if the German manager fails to find a reinforcement.
Therefore, the Blues require a viable left wing-back as a short-term solution who can also compete with Chilwell in the long run. Chelsea prioritised recalling Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell at Lyon.
However, several approaches from the Blues’ board were blocked by Lyon, who desperately want to keep hold of the Italian. Other than that, the West London team still hasn’t managed to lure in any alternatives until now.

Kenedy is actually not a bad option to have with us right now. A wide midfielder who can play on both wings, he can be deployed as a wing-back if need be.
His quality may be suspect given he hasn’t had a lot of experience playing in the PL recently, but he would be an extra set of legs for the team to deploy in case they are out of options. Now the decision lies with the manager and the Chelsea board on how they want to handle the situation.
