Transfer News: Status of left-backs Chelsea are eyeing to repalce Ben Chilwell
According to the Metro, Chelsea first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell requires surgery and could be ruled out for the remainder of the season. We look at the possible replacements that have been linked with the move to Stamford Bridge of late.
Chelsea’s first Choice left-back Ben Chilwell suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury in the initial phase of the season and has been sidelined for several months. Now, it is believed that the Blues camp has decided that surgery is required after the initial non-invasive methods didn’t work out well.
There have been many stars who have been linked with a move to Chelsea lately. We take a look at what the papers are saying regarding the different players linked with a move to the Bridge.
Kieran Trippier
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), There are ongoing talks between the representatives of Kieran Trippier and Newcastle United. Furthermore, it is believed that the Magpies are confident about securing the signature of the Atletico Madrid player.
Chelsea have been linked with Trippier recently, but Newcastle poses a problem. However, the Magpies are currently in the relegation zone. Therefore, Chelsea could have the edge over Eddie Howe’s team if the Blues leverage the possibility of playing in the Champions League football when negotiating with Trippier.
Nicolas Tagliafico
According to Fabrizio Romano, Nicolas Tagliafico could leave Ajax in the ongoing transfer window. The Argentine has seen his reputation soar since joining the Eredivisie giants in 2018.
Chelsea have been linked with Tagliafico, so has Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Here also, the Saudi backed club proposes a difficulty for Chelsea to lure the Argentine.
However, Tagliafico is 29-year-old and currently in the twilight of his career. Therefore, even if the Blues board secures the signature, it’d only serve the short term need which Thomas Tuchel desperately wants. But without any long term guarantee, the possibility of a permanent transfer looks slim.
Lucas Digne
According to talkSPORT (h/t Football.London), Everton has confirmed the arrival of Ukrainian left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev.
It is believed that Lucas Digne recently had a fallout with Everton manager Rafa Benitz and since hasn’t played a single match. The new left-back reinforcement suggests that Digne could be closing to an exit. Chelsea are one of the teams mentioned to be keeping an eye on his situation at Goodison Park.
