Transfer News: Chelsea have completed the signing of Watford wonderkid Travis Akomeah
According to @TheSecretScout_ via Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Watford and completed the paperwork for the signing of highly-skilled young centre-back Travis Akomeah.
We have taken a backseat in the title race in the last few weeks due to the recurring injury concerns in the senior team. Our frontline, midfield, and defence have all had a number of major players unavailable for selection at different points of time throughout this season.
Ben Chilwell’s injury issues were already a headache for Tuchel. But his full-back partner Reece James recently joined him on the sidelines, which has only magnified the selection headache in defence for the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager.
Due to the injury issues, Thomas Tuchel has been pushed to play César Azpilicueta in the right wing-back role. Even though the move was working well when Chelsea had four other viable centre back options, injuries to Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva created problems of its own.
Thomas Tuchel used Malang Sarr in the last few matches. However, the player seemed a bit rusty which is understandable given how he has rarely been used by us this season.
In the last few months, contract rebel Antonio Rudiger has been heavily linked with elite European clubs whereas Andreas Christensen also attracted interest from top foreign clubs. Therefore, Chelsea would be wise to start future-proofing their defence keeping all of this in mind.
Who is Travis Akomeah?
The signing of the England-born Ghanaian teenager Travis Akomeah would undoubtedly provide a massive boost to Thomas Tuchel’s future plans. It is believed that the 16-year-old defender also had offers from Liverpool and Bournemouth. However, he preferred a move to Stamford Bridge instead, which shows the Ghanain starlet’s commitment to our cause.
We are currently going through a difficult phase and certainly require reinforcements. Even though 16-year-old Travis Akomeah wouldn’t be much of a help in the current scenario, he could indeed become a top performer under Thomas Tuchel’s guidance.

Signing proven defenders often requires hefty fees. With the proper development and growth, Travis Akomeah could become a starter in the coming seasons and save us a bit of cash on that front.
