Transfer News: Chelsea handed Erling Haaland opportunity as Borussia Dortmund target Timo Werner

According to the Spanish publication Fichajes (h/t Football.London), Chelsea could be handed an opportunity to sign Erling Haaland as Borussia Dortmund have identified Timo Werner as a transfer target. It could potentially be in the best interest of all the parties involved looking at the current circumstances.

A host of clubs are interested in signing Haaland, which has prompted Dortmund to look for potential replacements. He is expected to leave next summer, further calling for the need to look into the transfer market. They are “targeting” a move for Werner to safeguard against the potential departure of their star man.

Interestingly enough, the Blues are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, which may result in an exchange deal between both clubs. The Bundesliga side have also been linked with a move for Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic in the past few months, which gives us more room to discuss a potential swap deal.

Timo Werner to make way for Erling Haaland?

Best for all parties?

The prospect of signing the Norwegian cannot simply be passed upon, especially when an opportunity knocks on the door. While the 25-year-old has been good for us overall, he still has not found the goalscoring boots from his time in Germany.

The Dortmund superstar has a release clause in his contract worth £64million, which is very cheap for a generational talent like him. The German was brought to Stamford Bridge after paying £47.6million in transfer fees to RB Leipzig. If we could complete a swap plus a small cash amount to sign the Norway international, it would be one of the best pieces of business we would have done in recent times.

We may seem to be ruthless towards the Blues striker for getting used as a ploy, but the fact of the matter is we cannot simply ignore how he is not as prolific as the BVB youngster. Even if the former has been good in all other areas of his game, that is not enough when a player is competing at the top level.

It remains to be seen if the German club would rekindle their interest in Ziyech or Pulisic in the process if negotiations do take place. But if a swap deal can be facilitated, it would be in the best interest of all parties for it to happen. The Chelsea star could find his goalscoring touch should he return to Germany, while the Norwegian ace could cherish a jump up to a bigger club.

Both clubs can also meet their respective needs giving us more reason to move forward with this chance next summer. Time will tell, though, if they would approach or not as it would determine our chances of getting the young prodigy.
