Transfer News: Bayern Munich star Niklas Süle ‘prefers’ Premier League move amid Chelsea interest
According to German outlet Bild (h/t The Sun), Chelsea target Niklas Süle would prefer to end up in the Premier League rather than moving to Barcelona.
Niklas Süle has played the role of a key central defender for Bayern Munich in the last few seasons. Even though a serious injury ruled out the German star from playing all the games in the 2019/20 campaign, he certainly played an influential part in Die Rotten’s subsequent Champions League triumph.
The 26-year-old has played in 23 matches across all club competitions this term, showing that he is one of Bayern’s key men at the back. A physically imposing presence in defence, Sule is not one to be messed with if you are an attacker.
Despite being a first-team starter at the German club, Süle is currently ‘hesitating’ over signing a renewal contract, and if the situation stays like that, the 26-year-old would be a free agent at the end of the season.
Sule to Chelsea?
Barcelona are interested in signing the 6ft 5in defender, but it is believed that he would instead choose a Premier League team for his next destination.
It is a massive advantage for Chelsea, who have been linked with Sule recently. The Blues board is undoubtedly aware of the defender’s qualities after targeting him for a few occasions in the past, and the recent development would certainly have their attention.
We are yet to bind Antonio Rudiger to a new contract, and the situation remains the same with Andreas Christensen and club captain, Cesar Azpilicueta. The German defender was a key component of our UEFA Champions League-winning squad, while the Danish international, at 25, is supposed to be one of our younger defenders who can command our defence in the future.

If any of the three defenders choose to end their Chelsea career in the summer, our team would be in a disadvantageous situation with regard to depth at the back. Potentially signing Niklas Süle in the January window would undoubtedly rule out such a possibility to an extent and relax our fans to a big extent.
He is one of the top defenders in Europe right now and the Bundesliga is a league that Tuchel knows well courtesy of his time at Borussia Dortmund. It now remains to be seen if we actually formalize our apparent interest in the former Hoffenheim man or not.
