According to the Catalan news outlet El Nacional (h/t The Sun), Paris Saint-Germain have expressed their interest in signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a permanent transfer after the revelation of Roman Abramovich’s decision. The centre-forward was recently involved in a high-profile mix-up for an interview.
Lukaku revealed in the interview that he was unhappy with life at Stamford Bridge and had regretted his decision to leave Inter Milan. He even went on to promise that he wants to return to San Siro when he is still in his prime. Following the mess, he issued a public apology on the matter after initially getting sidelined against Liverpool as a punishment.
Abramovich has issued full support to Thomas Tuchel and is supposedly assessing his options to sell the Belgian. He is open to facilitating a move if they can get most of the money that they initially paid for the forward. That has put several European clubs on “red alert”, with PSG also showing their intent.
Les Parisiens accepted that Kylian Mbappe would leave them next summer when his contract comes to an end. Nasser Al-Khelaifi is an admirer of the Blues attacker and is lining up a £75.5million move to bring him to the French capital. Cristiano Ronaldo is also an option, but the 28-year-old is identified as a more reasonable investment due to his age.
While the fans have not taken lightly to what the Belgian international has done, this would seem too harsh when he has already made an apology. That’s not all, as Thomas Tuchel has revealed that their relationship is back to normal, and there is no issue between them.
We have made a £97.5million investment which was done with a long-term objective in mind. It is not logical to get rid of the Chelsea ace when things are looking like it is returning to the way it was. Obviously, some time would be needed before the effects of the interview are fully eradicated but there have been signs that the matter is already put to bed.
The Blues attacker was seen to shush the Tottenham Hotspur fans after they mocked him about the interview during the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. His body language, plus Tuchel’s aforementioned admission, indicate that they have already gotten past the issue, meaning we should not hold much thought over this unless there is a reliable confirmation from either the player or the clubs concerned.
Things are already looking better as the Belgian centre-forward was on the scoresheet in the 5-1 win against Chesterfield in the FA Cup third round. He would be hoping to carry forward that scoring touch when we face off against Spurs in the second leg of the EFL Cup semis on Wednesday.
This news should, thus, be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, we would be incredibly unwise to make a financial loss on a player who is in his prime, just for some words he said in an interview- for which he even went on to apologize for.
