Premier League clash between Chelsea and Brighton brought forward to January
According to Chelsea’s official club website, new dates have been announced in January for the Blues’ Premier League away fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion. Unfortunately for the Blues, the clash has been brought forward.
The London club were originally supposed to take a trip to the Amex Stadium for their clash against Brighton on February 8, but the game was to be rescheduled due to Chelsea’s involvement in the upcoming Club World Cup.
It has been announced that Chelsea will now face the Seagulls on Tuesday, 18 January, at 8 pm (UK time). This will add further strain on Thomas Tuchel who is already dealing with injuries and Covid-19 outbreaks in the squad.
Following this announcement, it was also decided that in the event both sides are involved in a rearranged FA Cup third-round tie, then the Premier League fixture will be postponed once again.
Chelsea only recently clashed against Brighton in the Premier League, in what was a disappointing result for the Blues. The South Coast club played out a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, courtesy of a Danny Welbeck header in the dying minutes of the game.
The result saw the Blues drop crucial points at home, and have slipped behind defending champions Manchester City in the league table. A repeat of the same will end any faint hopes Chelsea had of beating Man City to the title.
The fixture change comes at a time when we have been rocked by injuries and Covid cases. This news also means that we have one more fixture to squeeze into what is already a busy January schedule. Squad management will be key as games will now come in thick and fast.
Tuchel will hope that his players bounce back quickly from their struggles. Hopefully, we can put out a strong team for both the Brighton clash as well as the upcoming fixtures in the Club World Cup. The chance to win silverware is up for grabs, and we will need our best players fit and raring to go for these games.

After having just played Brighton recently, we should expect Tuchel and the players to put up a better display than they did against the Seagulls. Claiming three points at the Amex Stadium will put pressure on Manchester City in the league.
