Transfer News: Juventus eye summer swoop for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t football.london), Juventus are considering a move for Chelsea star Jorginho at the end of the current season, as Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri looks to bolster his midfield option in the summer transfer windows.
Jorginho is arguably one of Chelsea’s best players, who can always be relied upon to put in a shift in the middle of the park and dictate the tempo of the Blues’ plays. The Italian has only seen his stock rise recently, especially after last year’s Champions League triumph and Euro 2020 win with Italy.
It is reported that Juventus previously considered a move for Jorginho during ex-Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri‘s brief spell at the helm. With new boss Allegri in charge, it looks likely that the Italian giants are returning once again to prise Jorginho away from Stamford Bridge.
Juventus has seen a dip in their recent form and stature in Serie A, with the club missing out on a Scudetto title last year, barely scraping into the Champions League on the last day of the campaign. Little has improved as the Bianconeri sit fifth in the league and have already lost the SuperCoppa Italiana to Inter Milan.
Jorginho back to Italy?
Chelsea will look to keep their Italian star beyond the 2021/22 season, with Jorginho growing into a leader and midfield lynchpin for the club under Thomas Tuchel. The veteran has formed an effective partnership with N’golo Kante in the middle of the park. The 30-year-old has also turned into a goal outlet for the Blues, with his penalties winning us crucial matches in recent games.
However, Chelsea are desperate not to lose another first-team star, with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta all potentially leaving for free at the end of the season when their current deals with the Blues expire.
Jorginho is currently at the peak of his career and is enjoying a successful run with both club and country, gaining multiple plaudits from fans and critics alike. Once rebuked for being a one-dimensional player who played too many backward and sideways passes, the Italian has silenced his critics and proven himself to be a modern midfielder general as well as a dependable penalty taker.
Juventus are sure to have noted the midfielder’s prior Serie A experience with Napoli, where he established himself as a top-class talent. Allegri is determined to take the club back to where it belongs and believes that the midfield is an area that can do with strengthening.

Having turned 30, Chelsea may be tempted to cut ties with Jorginho and focus on bringing in a younger replacement. If an attractive offer comes in from Italy, we could consider the option and cash in on the midfielder if the club hierarchy believes he will not continue his fine form with us for a couple more years.
However, the situation becomes complicated given Chelsea’s current status regarding contract negotiations. With several defensive stars potentially set to leave the club in the summer, just how helpful it will also be to lose one of our veteran midfield lynchpins is debatable.
