Frank Lampard to steal away Chelsea coach if he lands Premier League managerial role at Everton

Graham Potter speaks out about Thomas Tuchel and his efforts to sign Chelsea coach Anthony Barry.

Frank Lampard wants Chelsea coach Anthony Barry to join him at Everton if he lands the job

According to The Sun, ex Chelsea player and manager Frank Lampard is planning to recruit current Blues coach Anthony Barry if the former midfielder manages to land the manager’s job at Premier League club Everton. It was Lampard who brought Barry to Stamford Bridge in 2020 during his tenure as Chelsea boss.

The English coach has remained at Chelsea even after Lampard’s departure last season and is currently helping incumbent manager Thomas Tuchel coach the squad. Together, the pair worked with the rest of the backroom staff as they led the players to Champions League and Super Cup triumphs in the previous campaign.

With Lampard now favourite to take the job at Everton, the Chelsea legend is looking to take Barry as part of his backroom staff. The 35-year-old will look to help the Blues’ record goalscorer rekindle his managerial career at Goodison Park as they try to recreate some of their magic from their time together at Chelsea.

With the club sacking Lampard last season, Barry also looked to be heading out the door. However, Tuchel is said to have persuaded him to stay on, despite the highly-rated coach being linked with Cardiff City, Aberdeen, and Tranmere Rovers for a coaching gig.

Raid at Stamford Bridge?

The German has also credited Barry with setting up Chelsea’s set-piece routines and tactics. The 35-year-old certainly knows his stuff, as Tuchel’s side has scored nine goals from dead-ball situations so far this season. Barry’s tactics certainly add a different edge to the Blues’ attack.

If Lampard does land the coaching gig at Everton, he is sure to come back for Barry to beef up his backroom staff and rely on an old colleague to help him out with his new challenge. It is interesting to see if the former Chelsea midfielder also comes back to snap up some other assets from his old club, especially when it comes to talented players he can convince to join him at Goodison Park.

Another important aspect of Barry’s potential move to Everton would be his links to the Toffees. The Englishman came up through the ranks at Goodison Park as an Everton youth player and was born in Liverpool. Lampard will hope that Barry’s background will help him win over the supporters and also have someone who is familiar with the city and club.

Given how Barry’s previous foothold at Everton will help Lampard settle in with his potential new employers, the former England international will also hope that his previous links at Chelsea will result in a few transfer deals with the Blues if he looks to beef up the Toffees squad.

The former Derby County manager is well aware of the players and youth products that Chelsea possesses, and may look to utilise his good connections with us to snap up a few talented players as reinforcements to an Everton side that has just not looked the part at all this season.

A potential raid at Stamford Bridge may be likely, as our club legend could return to steal our backroom staff as well as some players if lands the gig at Goodison Park. As things stand, he definitely could be announced as the Everton manager in the coming few days.
