Transfer News: Euro 2020 hero on Chelsea’s radar suffers serious injury blow

Chelsea target Federico Chiesa suffers massive injury blow

According to Football.London, Juventus star Federico Chiesa is unlikely to join Chelsea in the January transfer window after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

Federico Chiesa has developed into one of the most promising forwards in Serie A. Last season, the 24-year-old showed an impressive array of skills for Juventus and he has since continued to go from strength to strength. Internationally, the winger earned rave reviews after leading Italy to the Euro 2020 title.

This newfound fame has not been given a chance to grow as Chiesa continues to struggle with injuries. In fact, he has only appeared sporadically for Juventus this season.

During Juventus’s Serie A tie against AS Roma, Chiesa was substituted at the half-hour mark. The Old Lady afterwards announced that the Italian star had torn his ACL, which would keep him sidelined for a hefty period of 2022.

Chelsea were believed to be interested in Chiesa; however, a move in the January transfer window has now been ruled out amid his injury setback.

The Blues secured the signing of Romelu Lukaku in the summer window for a club-record fee. Even though the Belgian has given decent performance in this campaign, he has created some noise lately due to off-field activities. It’s still uncertain how committed the former Inter Milan star is to the current project at Chelsea.

On the other hand, Timo Werner hasn’t been able to meet the expectations at Stamford Bridge. The German star’s inconsistent display is a growing concern for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Even though Chelsea require a solution for the frontline, the situation is still under control. However, there are much bigger concerns in the full-back and centre back positions that require immediate attention.

Due to Chiesa’s stature in Italy, the 24-year-old wouldn’t come cheap and therefore Chelsea have to pay a hefty sum from their transfer budget to secure the transfer. However, with the current injury, the striker wouldn’t be much of a help to the Blues’ short term problems. Therefore the wise decision for the Blues board would be to invest the money elsewhere.
