“Borussia Chelsea”- Tuchel sends blunt title race warning to Man City ahead of Liverpool tie

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel sends warning to current boss Graham Potter.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel sends massive title-race message to Man City ahead of facing Liverpool

Speaking in an interview, as quoted by The Sun, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel claimed that he will try and stop Man City from winning the Premier League title ahead of facing Liverpool on Sunday.

The Blues saw a window of opportunity on Wednesday night against Brighton but failed to take it. An added time equalizer from Danny Welbeck put yet another dent into our hopes of winning the league title. It has not helped that since that game, Man City have garnered two narrow victories against two of the stingiest teams in the league.

It is not a confidence booster to see your rival do so well. However, the Citizens have enjoyed squad depth in comparison to other teams. They have been relatively free from Covid-19 cases, whereas Liverpool and Chelsea have faced reasonable issues.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund manager, who has previously fought for a league title against Pep Guardiola in the Bundesliga, is not ready to throw the towel in yet and wants to go down fighting against this “relentless” Man City side.

“(Man) City are relentless, and they know just what it takes to produce high-point seasons over and over and over again…It is a winning machine. At this particular moment, the strength of Manchester City’s squad is the key advantage.

“As long as I’m here in my ‘Borussia Chelsea’, I will do nothing else than make other teams underperform. We will even try to make Manchester City underperform. We will not stop. And Jurgen, I’m pretty sure he will do the same to get the best out of Liverpool — and we here will get the best out of Chelsea. We will not stop chasing. We will not stop believing or stop doing this.”

Massive boost

Watching Man City perform like champions, especially with a dramatic late goal against Arsenal, is the starting indication that they still have what it takes to be champions. They are the experts at it, as evidenced by their domestic success in the past decade. But there is something really encouraging about Tuchel still planning on going hammer and tong in this title race.

The Blues have been plagued with injuries and Covid-19 cases over the last month. The gaffer would understandably be irritated by his inability to field a strong side recently, and for his team to keep playing despite the Covid outbreak at Cobham. The draw against Brighton also came at a cost as Reece James and Andreas Christensen had to be brought off.

Romelu Lukaku threw oil into this fire following the release of his interview done in early December. But despite all of this, the German boss remains confident of his chances and is not prepared to give up. This is a massive motivation for all supporters as well as the players in the dressing room. We may be down, but we are not out yet.

More Chelsea News

The game against Liverpool is of the utmost importance, especially since our next league game following the clash against Stamford Bridge on Sunday is against Man City. There are some gaps to close between then and now, and Tuchel is ready. He defeated Guardiola thrice in the second half of last season, courtesy of which, it is not out of the realm of possibility to think the Blues could actually pip Man City to the title this term.

All it takes is for City to slip up a bit and for us to keep winning our games. While it isn’t unwise to say that the games against the two most feared teams in England have come at the wrong time, one can also say that it has come at just the right moment. Two wins here and we are back in the picture for lifting the title come May.
