Chelsea target Sergino Dest will not leave Barcelona in January transfer window
According to the German publication BILD (h/t Metro), Chelsea target Sergino Dest will not leave Barcelona in the January transfer window as per the comments from his representative. He has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge following the injury plague that has affected the defensive options.
Barca are currently in a financial crisis as they could not register their winter signing Ferran Torres so far. The loan transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa has helped, but they are looking at more ways to meet their needs. The Blues have shown an interest in prising the 21-year-old away from Camp Nou.
However, Michael Reschke, Head of European Football at ICM Stellar Sports, who represent Dest, has revealed in an interview with BILD (h/t Metro) that his client has no intention of leaving the Blaugrana club. That would deal a damning blow to the Blues, who are eager to bring in reinforcement to address their issues.
“He has no intention of changing clubs.”
Time to look elsewhere?
Since this is a confirmation from the player’s side itself, there is no use in pursuing him moving forward. Time is precious in the winter transfer window, so we should only focus our attention on targets who would not object to a transfer.
With Reece James out on the sidelines for two months, we need to sign someone who could fill that gap. Our situation on the left-hand side is even worse as Ben Chilwell will miss the rest of the season. The US international would have been a great signing since he has experience playing on both sides for club and country.
Even if we reach an agreement with the Catalans, it would be of no use if the La Liga star is not interested in a move. So we have to call it a day and look at other options who could do a similar job for us. Thomas Tuchel has already revealed that the club could use the transfer window to bring in additions for the gap left by Reece James.

With Cesar Azpilicueta as our only choice, it would not be wise to go through the difficult fixtures without proper backup in our team. Players like Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Trevoh Chalobah could play that role, but they are not natural options, meaning there would be some form of limitations resulting from it.
Bringing in someone on a loan transfer would be the best decision as we only need him to cover for two months. As such, it would not make sense to spend big for a short term need. Time will tell a clear picture whether we are identifying possible solutions or if a signing would be made this month or not.
