Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku suffers large fine for controversial interview despite his public apology

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has received a hefty fine for the controversial interview he made despite his public apology to the fans and teammates. He was sidelined for the clash against Liverpool as a punishment for the havoc he caused in the squad.

Thomas Tuchel revealed Lukaku has been penalised for his actions and got reintegrated into the team ahead of the match against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The forward is expected to lose at least £325,000 in wages, which roughly amounts to one week of his salary.

Tuchel has admitted that the matter would not be completely resolved in an instant as the Belgian has to work hard to regain the trust of the Blues supporters. The attacker clarified in his apology video that he should have worded it better and was sorry for creating all this ruckus.

Next step- Perform

It is no use dwelling on what has happened for too long, so we should get over it and look towards the future. The 28-year-old may not be forgiven by all the fans initially but the centre-forward could win them over in due time. The match later today would be a perfect opportunity for him to do just that.

Things would be complicated in the early days, but with time and good performances, it can be resolved. The Belgian international has looked good since returning from injury, and he should continue building on that moving forward. His involvement would be a major boost as one simply cannot overlook the quality that he brings to the team.

It is good to see that the club has taken swift action to solve this situation, and they could not have done it any better. If the issue did not get resolved for too long, it would have affected the harmony in the squad, and it could have affected our season.

Chelsea ace Romelu Lukaku has been reinstated to the squad.

The Belgian superstar would face his former coach Antonio Conte on the opposite side, so he should use that as an opportunity to put this issue to bed. A splendid performance against the former Inter Milan coach could be just what the fans need at the moment, and we could work towards “healing” in the days to come.

The monetary fine in itself is not a big deal as that does not hold any value or importance in this case. What matters is how the Chelsea attacker feels about the situation and if he is genuinely sorry about what has happened. Let’s hope that is the case as we try to challenge for the Carabao Cup title later today.
