According to The Sunday World via TEAMtalk (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are looking to bolster their defensive options in the coming transfer window and might not be able to spend money on Eden Hazard.
The Belgian was one of the best players in the Premier League during his time at Stamford Bridge. But his dream of playing for Real Madrid took him away from London in 2019. Nevertheless, the movie has not gone according to plan and the veteran has struggled to make an impact.
Recurring injuries hampered his game time and he fell down the pecking order under successive Los Blancos managers. Hazard has only managed five goals and nine assists in 59 matches across all competitions which is a demeaning reflection of his pomp at Chelsea.
Chelsea are currently facing major problems with that defensive options ahead of next summer. Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and César Azpilicueta will be out of contract in the summer. However, Marina Granovskaia’s board still haven’t found a way to tie them down to a new contract. Therefore there is no certainty over the availability of these defenders for the next season.
On top of that, players’ fitness has been a major concern for Chelsea amid a busy schedule. Both Blues’ first-choice full-backs- Reece James and Ben Chilwell are currently out of action thanks to injury and it could derail our season’s expectations.
All these problems have made life difficult for Thomas Tuchel. It is believed that Chelsea have made it a priority to sign defensive targets in the upcoming transfer window.
Hazard has been linked with a Chelsea move lately. But with every passing day, the chances of the move materializing begins to look slim. As the Blues would be looking for defensive targets in the winter, it’s highly unlikely that Marina Granovskaia’s board would splash the big money on a potential homecoming for Hazard.
On the other hand, The 30-tear-old’s Real Madrid career is beginning to look optimistic after the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. The Belgian forward has given some good performance in recent games and appears to have earned the trust of his manager. Whether he still retains hope of making it in Madrid remains to be seen.
It might be a better decision for the Chelsea board to drop the interest in Hazard. The Belgian star has lost his spark at Real Madrid and isn’t getting any younger. Thus, any investment in his doesn’t guarantee a long term solution. On the other hand, Blues have just invested big money on Romelu Lukakau so, it’d be too early to splash the clash for another forward.
