According to Football. London, Chelsea loanee Armando Broja has suggested that he is enjoying playing week in, week out for Southampton.
Armando Broja has been one of Chelsea’s top loanees this season. The Albanian star has already bagged seven goals and one assist in 21 appearances, quite impressive numbers that many heavyweight strikers have failed to achieve in this campaign. He was impressive once again in the 1-1 draw against league leaders Manchester City yesterday.
His excellent run of performances has seen him strike the right chord with the Saints faithful. Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl recently revealed that his team is currently negotiating with Chelsea to make Broja’s move permanent.
Right after the comments, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel suggested that securing good game time is suitable for the Albanian star’s overall improvement and revealed that the Blues board don’t have any plans to recall him before the summer window.
After the clash against Manchester City, Broja hailed the support he is getting from Southampton and pointed out getting regular appearances is keeping him motivated.
“Obviously, like I said before, it’s an amazing club, amazing players, people, so I’m around good people, and I’m enjoying my football. I’m happy with the opportunities that I’m getting and trying to help the team out.”
No doubt our forward line has struggled to put up impressive numbers this season. Romelu Lukaku’s spell has been okayish, whereas Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic have failed to maintain consistency. But bringing in a new player could only increase problems.
Players like Callum Hudson-Odoi have struggled for game time in his campaign, which suggests that Thomas Tuchel might not require another striker at this moment. Broja is doing well at Southampton and it could prove counter-productive should we recall him to Stamford Bridge.
At this moment, staying at Southampton would undoubtedly provide Broja with better playing opportunities. His continued development will help the club in the long term.
Given Broja’s performances so far, Chelsea have little reason to sanction the Albanian’s sale to Southampton. It remains to be seen if Tuchel sees a bigger role for the striker at Stamford Bridge next season.
