Transfer News: Chelsea keeping close tabs on 19-year-old Stade Reims forward

Chelsea are closely following the progress of Stade Reims forward Hugo Ekitike

According to Foot Mercato (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Hugo Ekitike, who continues to make a name for himself in Ligue 1 this season.

Hugo Ekitike has generated quite a stir in the French top flight after scoring eight goals and three assists in 17 appearances. Still only 19 years of age, the centre forward has shown signs of developing into a reliable talent in the years to come.

Although Chelsea have some of the biggest names in Europe such as Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in their ranks, both players have flattered to deceive. Whether it is for now or for the future, it is imperative that the club add an infallible scorer to their ranks.

Hugo Ekitike is currently just 2 goals behind Mbappe in the Ligue 1 charts.

This is only Ekiteke’s second season with the Stade Reims senior team, and he is just two goals behind Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. His string of incredible performances have turned many heads in Europe, and Chelsea will undoubtedly fancy their chances to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that the Blues have already initiated talks with Stade Reims regarding a potential summer transfer for the French starlet. Whether we will get our man or there are more twists in the tale remains to be seen.

In the last few seasons, Chelsea have earned fame for managing the growth of young players. Be it this season’s top scorer Mason Mount or Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James, all have attached a lot of praise and are currently key players at the Bridge. Another notable mention is Tammy Abraham, who joined Roma last summer and has been spectacular for them this term. These players were relatively unknown to the footballing community a few seasons ago.

Therefore, Stamford Bridge could be a viable destination for any young footballer eyeing to reach the game’s highest echelons. After the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, a world-class manager with years of experience, the value of this institution has further increased.

Chelsea showing strong interest in Hugo Ekitike.

Therefore, Chelsea could provide a better stage for Hugo Ekitike, which would benefit both parties. The lack of bite up front might indicate that we have to look beyond our ranks for viable alternatives. The French star can be an excellent option if he decides to join us in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Blues board convinces him to leave his hometown club Stade Reims. Our board certainly can leverage our excellent sporting project to make the transfer happen. If he develops as expected, Chelsea could very well lock in their starting forward for the upcoming decade.
