Transfer News: Chelsea keen to land 22-year-old North American ace next summer

Chelsea linked with Canada international Jonathan David ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window

According to TSN (h/t football.london), Chelsea are looking to convince LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David to make a permanent move to Stamford Bridge, potentially in the summer transfer window. The young striker has garnered a lot of attention thanks to his performances in Ligue 1 this season, where he is among the top scorers in the division.

David has always been touted as one of the world’s most exciting young talents and his stock rose sharply after he helped Lille to the Ligue 1 title last season, dethroning French juggernauts Paris Saint Germain. The forward played a major role in their incredible run to the summit, finding the back of the net at regular intervals.

One of the French division’s brightest stars, David could very well be interested in making a move to a big club in the summer. . At 22, he has the best years ahead of him and Chelsea could land themselves a player who can be a long term option for us in the attack.

Chelsea will not have it easy in their attempts to lure the Canadian forward, as several other clubs are also said to be interested in the player. The potential list of suitors includes Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur and there is every chance that a transfer tussle could be on the cards in the summer.

The Blues currently have three of the world’s top forwards at their disposal, in Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz. The trio were big-money signings for the Blues, but have yet to justify their high price tags with inconsistent performances defining their time in West London.

David could be the latest star to swap France for England and take his talents to one of the premier London clubs. Chelsea have quite a history with Lille having signed the likes of Eden Hazard and Solomon Kalou from them in the past. It remains to be seen if David will soon follow in the same footsteps.

Chelsea fans will be excited to hear about the links to David, as we have been struggling in front of goals this season. Despite boasting a wealth of attacking talent, our strikers have either not been clinical in front of goal, or suffered a massive dip in form.

Lukaku and Werner have struggled to impose themselves in games this term while Champions League final hero Havertz seems to be a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge. We need a player who can come in and shake things up in attack, as well as give enough competition for our struggling forwards to motivate themselves to do better.

We have dropped crucial points this term by drawing multiple games over the winter period, which has seen our title challenge go up in smoke. David could well be the signing we need in the summer so that we can mount a renewed title charge next season.

It remains to be seen whether the Canadian would make a summer move from France, but with the number of clubs interested in him, he could be tempted to make a move away from Ligue 1. What better place to shine than at the reigning European champions?
