Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has been named The Best FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year for 2021, for leading the side to two cup finals, including a Champions League win, and a fourth-place finish last season.
The German took over the reins at Stamford Bridge in January last year after Chelsea sacked Frank Lampard. he has since gone on to collect a UEFA Champions League winners’ medal as well as a UEFA Super Cup winners’ medal as the Blues once again established themselves as a top European side.
Tuchel received the award from legendary ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. According to Football.london, the German coach expressed his excitement at talking to Wenger on FIFA’s live stream of the event.
“I’m a huge admirer of Arsene Wenger’s work so it’s exciting to be here with you and have this little talk, so I try my best to fulfil our dreams. I’ve just come from training because we have a game tomorrow but now you opened my envelope and said my name, so it’s just pretty surreal and I’m overwhelmed- I feel a little bit uncomfortable actually.”
A runner-up in last season’s FA Cup campaign, Tuchel beat both Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Italy head coach Roberto Mancini to the award. The former Dortmund manager lost just seven times in 36 games last season and also completely turned around Chelsea’s fortunes. He is clearly a deserved winner of the accolade. ,
The Stamford Bridge faithful have also quickly taken to the German after he led them to European glory in his first season at the club. He also ensured that Chelsea secured a top-four finish in the league despite a poor start to the 20/21 season.
The Blues boss talked about his future aims as manager of Chelsea, saying he has enjoyed his journey so far and that he feels good to be part of such a competitive club. Hopefully, this is just the start and there are better things yet to come.
“I enjoy the journey and I enjoy the club in the moment- the company on the journey is so good, so I’m grateful to have good people around me and to feel so good in such a competitive club. We lost a big track to Manchester City in the league but in every other competition, we follow our goals still and we try and be the best versions of ourselves and compete at the highest levels.”
Chelsea were left in a dangerous place after Lampard’s sacking, slipping down the Premier League table and putting in performances that were sure to get them knocked out of cup competitions. Tuchel did not merely steady the ship but also steered it home.
The 48-year-old has masterminded a new era at the club with his tactics and man-management turning out to be key strengths for us. The German has overseen victories against other top-six sides in the Premier League, as well as beating European heavyweights in the Champions League.
Tuchel is deserving of this award after his exploits with the Blues last season. Now ow we can hope that he repeats his tricks this campaign and brings more silverware home to Stamford Bridge. He has already taken us to the Carabao Cup final this season, giving us a chance to win trophies early this year. If all goes well, this could be just the first of many accolades that could find their way to Tuchel in the years to come.
