“Much better”- Tuchel provides fresh Chelsea injury update ahead of Carabao Cup semifinals

Boost for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel provides fresh Timo Werner injury update

According to Football.London, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel provided an injury update ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham and revealed that Timo Werner has returned to the field after a successful recovery.

The German has been going through a poor run of form and has failed to put together a consistent run of good performances. He has only managed to bag five goals and two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions, which could concern Tuchel going into the second phase of the 2021-22 campaign.

Werner also has missed several matches this season due to injury and Covid related reasons. The 25-year-old has been isolated since December 16 after returning a positive test for the Coronavirus. His injury pushed Thomas Tuchel to play Kai Havertz in the centre forward role, which is not his usual position.

Chelsea defensive ace Andreas Christensen is suffering from back pain and has missed the Liverpool game. Furthermore, Blues’ academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah had to be substituted in the 70th minute of the match against the Reds due to injury concerns

In his Press conference earlier today, Thomas Tuchel suggested that Christensen is still not recovered fully, whereas Chalobah will surely miss the Tottenham game. Furthermore, the German manager added that Timo Werner had made a return to the training ground completing his self-isolation period.

“Andreas is a doubt for tomorrow. Trevoh is out, and Timo trained yesterday. He feels much, much better.”

The Romelu Lukaku saga has majorly affected the club, and the German manager decided to drop him from the squad against the match against Liverpool on Sunday. It remains to be seen whether Thomas Tuchel brings the Belgian striker back into the team. Therefore, Werner’s return is a massive boost to the Chelsea squad.

However, Chelsea are missing a lot of players in the defensive line. Thiago Silva has just returned to fitness, and putting him through the crunch clash could turn problematic for his fitness. Just who makes the cut for the clash against Spurs remains to be seen.
