Transfer specialist reveals why 25-year-old Chelsea star is yet to pen fresh Stamford Bridge terms

Andreas Christensen yet to signed Chelsea extension tahnks to Barcelona interest

According to transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Football.London), Andreas Christensen has not penned an extension with Chelsea thanks to the interest from Barcelona. His current contract situation is complicated, and it could lead to further problems down the line for Marina Granovskaia.

Christensen was supposedly close to agreeing to a new deal ahead of this season, but the announcement never seemed to arrive. Di Marzio has expressed that Barca is the reason why the defender is yet to put pen to paper.

The Dane has entered the final six months of his contract and is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs. Thomas Tuchel had reduced his involvement in the starting lineup in recent months to force him to agree to a new deal. But that has not had any effect, and the Blues are in a tight spot currently regarding his future.

Barcelona are a roadblock for Chelsea in extending Andreas Christensen’s contract.

Whatsmore, the 25-year-old has changed his agents by joining KIN Partners, which could be a clue about what is to come in the future. They have had previous dealing with the Blaugrana club, and it would not be shocking to see a move being facilitated thanks to that connection. The Catalans are also keeping tabs on Cesar Azpilicueta, who is also in the same boat as Christensen.

Precarious situation

The club have done well with the Thiago Silva situation, tying him down for one more year. That gives us a sigh of relief, but we cannot rest as the other three centre-backs could leave for free at the end of this term. Antonio Rudiger is also in the mix among those who would become free agents next summer, so we have to take care of this crisis as soon as possible.

We have seen that the methods used by Tuchel have not done us any favours, and in that case, we should try to reach common ground with the Danish international. The Spanish club’s financial crisis has been well documented and, we have a clear advantage over them in such a situation.

Andreas Christensen to leave Chelsea for Barcelona?

In such a case, the Blues centre-back would probably earn more with us rather than at Camp Nou. Plus, looking at the sporting side of things, we have another advantage as the La Liga club are in a rebuilding phase and are a shadow of their former self.

As such, we should use these advantages to convince the Danish star to sign a new deal to keep him at the club for longer. He is the perfect bridge between the veterans and the youngster in our defensive system, so losing him could be detrimental and even costly moving forward. A solution should be found to eradicate all the uncertainty that is surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.
