Tranfer News: AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez sends contract message amidst Chelsea interest
According to Metro, AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez has delivered a message on his contract situation amidst interest from Chelsea for a potential transfer. He spoke on the matter in the post-match interview with Sky Italia following the 3-0 victory against Venezia in Serie A yesterday.
The Blues are keen on making an addition to the left wing-back spot as Ben Chilwell is set to be in the stands for the rest of this campaign. They considered the possibility of signing the Frenchman and were subsequently told by the Italian club to meet the valuation of €60million, as per Tuttosport (h/t Metro).
However, Hernandez has straight-up put an end to any potential move by declaring that he is happy with life at San Siro. He conveyed that negotiations over an extension are at an advanced stage, and club legend and director Paolo Maldini has played a crucial role in making that decision.
“We are at an advanced stage [contract negotiations]. I’ve been very happy here since the first day and we are in talks. I work every day to become the best. Paolo Maldini often helps with advice too.”

Since the Rossoneri are competing for the league title, it is difficult to see them budge from the stance they had taken regarding the rapid Frenchman. Moreover, it isn’t the easiest job to prise away a player in January, with teams looking forward to the second half of the season.
One could say the 24-year-old could have been a long-term option for us, considering how Marcos Alonso has entered the latter stages of his playing career. But with Ben Chilwell expected to return by the start of next season, it is tough to see the France international take a subdued role when he could have more prominence in Italy.
This situation could even be a blessing in disguise for us as we would not have to spend huge money to meet our needs for a meagre six months. Moreover, Emerson Palmieri could be recalled from Olympique Lyon with Thomas Tuchel’s side willing to pay compensation for the Ligue 1 side to approve their recall request.

Looking at our current needs, that would perhaps be one of the more financially wise options we can choose this month. Let’s hope that a solution is found as quickly as possible as we have a tough couple of fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City up ahead.
For now, it seems that Alonso would be our left wing-back with Callum Hudson-Odoi also a contender to play in that position, as witnessed in the game against Chesterfield.
