Barcelona boss Xavi suggests Gavi is not for sale amidst heavy interest from Chelsea
According to SPORT (h/t Football.London), Xavi revealed that Chelsea target Gavi has a long term future at Barcelona, and there is no chance the Catalan club will allow his departure.
The 17-year-old is the new teenage sensation to come out of the La Masia academy. The youngster has given some awe-inspiring performances for both club and country lately. This season, the starlet already has one goal and three assists in 22 matches across all competitions. Another arrow in his quiver was revealed recently against Elche CF when he showed sensational dribbling skills to get past defenders.
Chelsea have shown severe interest in Gavi of late. It is believed that Blues boss Roman Abramovich is a massive admirer of the Spanish youngster. But it seems Thomas Tuchel’s team will struggle to lure the prospect from Barcelona.
New manager Xavi has suggested that Gavi has a long term future in Barcelona, and they would do everything possible to keep hold of such a talented youngster. Given his performances of late, the sky is the limit for the youngster.
“We have to renew him already; if we need, we’ll get the money between us. We can’t lose these type of players. They have to be the base of the future.”
The Barcelona legend also revealed that the Catalan club are trying to renew Gavi’s contract as soon as possible. Given their recent financial setbacks, it makes sense that Barcelona are keen to ti down their best talents.
“I understand that the club are working very hard for Gavi’s renewal; that’s fundamental for the team.”
N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho have been the heart and soul of Thomas Tuchel’s midfield and injuries to the pair have impacted the Blues adversely. While Matero Kovacic remains another dependable option, the same cannot be said of Saul Niguez and the others.
Bringing in reinforcements is essential to curb this issue.

Barcelona has specific financial difficulties which can help Marina Granovskaia’s board. As the Catalan club is not in a position to offer a lucrative contract, they would look for other leverages like a cemented place in the team and a significant role on the field. Chelsea can take advantage of the opportunity as they have the financial freedom to offer a lucrative new contract.
