Thomas Tuchel suggests Christian Pulisic is fighting to regain his confidence following poor form
According to Football.London, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Christian Pulisic is working hard to rejuvenate his form despite playing in a position he is not used to.
The American has experienced a severe drop in performance in recent months. To be fair to him, recurring injuries have made it harder for him to perform consistently. The USMNT has not been the ideal choice for Thomas Tuchel and thus mostly spent time on the bench.
The 23-year-old has featured in 13 matches across all competitions this season, including only three full-90 min matches in the Premier League. It’s fair to say that the American has failed to reach his potential at Stamford Bridge.
When asked whether Pulisic has become more confident after featuring in recent games, the former Paris Saint Germain manager revealed that the USMNT forward is still struggling to rejuvenate his form. Even though the German is playing him in a different position, Tuchel believes receiving game time is more important.
“It is good to have minutes for him. Is it his very best position where he feels most comfortable? Maybe not. It is the way at the moment, but he is very positive about it, and he is fighting for his confidence and for the flow. While he is fighting, we’re supporting him.”
The recent Coronavirus outbreak at Chelsea has made life difficult for Thomas Tuchel. The German manager’s first choice strikers – Romelu Lukakau and Timo Werner, have been sidelined after returning positive tests for Covid-19.
Even though the former Dortmund manager used Kai Havertz in a central attacking role to cover up for the injury absences, the German international also suffered an injury and missed several games.
The situation obliged Tuchel to deploy Christian Pulisic in the central forward position. The 23-year-old usually excels in chiefly the right-wing position and. The American international to his credit gave a decent performance against Brentford after coming off the bench.
