Transfer News: Chelsea keen on signing Casemiro from Real Madrid
According to El Nacional (h/t Mirror), Chelsea are interested in signing Casemiro from Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti not completely opposed to selling the midfield.
Casemiro has been a long servant for Real Madrid. Time and again, he has proved his reliability and saved Los Blancos from threatening situations in the middle of the park. The Brazilian has more than 300 appearances for the Spanish club and is on the way to becoming a legend at Santiago Bernabeu. However, Ancelotti’s recent reflection could make his Madrid career vulnerable.
It is believed that in the eyes of the Italian manager, the Brazilian wouldn’t be treated as an ‘untouchable’. On the other hand, La Casa Blanca are seriously considering the possibility of offloading him.
Chelsea have tracked down the situation and are looking to take advantage. It is believed that Thomas Tuchel is a big admirer of the 29-year-old defensive midfielder and has asked Roman Abramovich to sanction a deal.
Even though the West Londoners were putting in top performances week by week up until the end of November, there are some concerns regarding the midfield. Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kanté aren’t featuring due to their respective injuries.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jorginho have also been sidelined and missed the 3-3 draw against Zenit. In addition to that, Saúl Ñíguez and Ross Barkley aren’t having the best spells of their lives, with full-back Reece James having to play as a central midfielder against the Russians.
While these players will be back at some point, Casemiro would shore up our midfield options to an immense extent. One of the top defensive midfielders in the world, he can be what we need in midfield to form a world-class quartet of midfielders that includes Kante, Jorginho, and Casemiro.

With the France international and the 2020 UEFA Euro-winning midfielder entering the last one and a half years of their contracts, maybe it is time to think of a replacement. That is, of course, if one or both of them don’t put pen to paper on a new deal.
But regardless of what happens with our other options in midfield, the chance to sign a player of Casemiro’s quality should not be passed up on.
