Transfer Update: Chelsea are interested in signing Lucas Digne from Everton
According to Calciomercato.com (h/t Mirror), Chelsea have entered the race to sign Everton defender Lucas Digne amidst the injury to Ben Chilwell.
The Frenchman is enjoying a modest spell at Everton. Digne has made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season. Furthermore, his leadership abilities earned him the captain armband. The 28-year-old defender captained his side that held Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United in a 1-1 draw earlier in the campaign.
The French defender has attracted interest from Italy as Juventus and Inter Milan have been tracking his development. However, it is believed that Chelsea have now entered the race to sign the veteran defender ahead of the winter transfer window.
Chelsea recently lost their two first-team left-backs due to injury. Ben Chilwell has been out of action for some time. before Marcos Alonso also joined him on the sidelines. The situation has obliged Thomas Tuchel to play Malaga Sarr in the deep position with Saúl Ñíguez also an option.
The Blues are trying to cover up for the losses. However, the results aren’t promising. Thomas Tuchel’s team is winless in the last two games and have looked less than compact at the back.
Digne has 127 English top-flight matches in his name. At the same time, the French international also contributed in attacking transitions while registering six goals and 20 assists for the Toffeemen.

The German manager prefers aggressive fullbacks during his tenure at the West London club. Under Tuchel’s reign, Reece James and Ben Chilwell have turned into attacking engines. They have played higher up the pitch and has tracked down whenever needed.
With a bit of adaptation, Digne could also thrive in the role. He will at the very least offer Chelsea a specialist option in the position.
