Transfer News: Juventus contact Chelsea star Jorginho over a potential move to Turin
According to Calciomercato.com (h/t The Mirror), Juventus have contacted Chelsea midfielder Jorginho over a potential transfer to Turin in the future. He recently finished third in the Balon d’Or standings after having an impressive year with the club and country.
The 29-year-old joined the Blues for a fee of £50 million from Napoli in 2018. He joined under the tenure of Maurizio Sarri, who was his previous manager with the Gli Azzurri. He initially struggled in England following the move and was often under pressure in the early years.
Slowly but surely, Jorginho started gaining a foothold in midfield and was at his best under Thomas Tuchel. He helped the German win the Champions League last year while enjoying a strong finish to the end of the Premier League. He also had success in his national team during this period leading them to Euro 2020 glory.
The Italian has made 159 appearances for the West London club with 21 goals and five assists in his tally so far. He also won several other trophies like UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League while achieving individual accolades like the UEFA Best Player award.
He recently guided Italy to the Euro 2020 title and was named the Best Midfielder of the competition. Juventus have apparently expressed their interest to the midfielder’s representatives should he decide to return to his nation. However, with him being at his best currently, it is unlikely to see him depart for a cheap fee in the coming transfer windows.
No concerns
The Bianconeri are currently under investigation for allegations suggesting accounting fraud between 2019 and 2021 for complying with Financial Fair Play regulations. While it is unproven that any wrongdoing was done by them, involving in transfer may not be the best idea in this situation.
Plus, Tuchel and his side have been great this season, being the league leaders while topping their group for the CL. The Italian star played a crucial part in the team’s success and has complete control over the pivot role. With the Seria A club struggling, it is puzzling to see why he would leave our exciting project.
