Journalist proposes sensational swap deal between Chelsea and Bayern

Ian McGarry reveals that Bayern Munich could swap Robert Lewandowski for Chelsea star Timo Werner

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t football.london), Ian McGarry revealed that Chelsea could swap Timo Werner for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international has been one of the most in-form strikers across Europe in the last decade. His performances last season also led to him narrowly missing out on the Ballon d’Or award to Lionel Messi earlier this week.

His agent, Pini Zahavi, has apparently offered Chelsea the chance of signing the striker. However, it is thought that a deal could also include Timo Werner going the other way. The 25-year-old has suffered in front of the goal for the London club and has previously garnered interest from the Bundesliga giants.

Ian McGarry recently revealed details of the possibility of a swap deal. Currently talks are ongoing regarding a potential move.

“It is certainly the case that he (Pini Zahavi) has offered Lewandowski to Chelsea and Granovskaia. A move that could include Werner going to Bayern. The prospect for Tuchel/Werner is appealing and is being discussed.”

Practical deal?

This move would delight every Chelsea fan, given the talent of the 33-year-old. Since joining Bayern in 2014, he has banged in 319 goals in 349 games across all competitions for the Bavarians. These are numbers one only associated with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo previously.

However, it must be noted that the Pole is not getting any younger. On the other hand, Timo Werner still has several years ahead of him and could form an influential part of our squad. Lewandowski is an excellent short-term option, but swapping him for a striker on the brink of hitting his professional peak might not be the wisest option.

The German might relish the opportunity to go back to arguably the best club in his home country and work under his former coach, Julian Nagelsmann. However, at the moment, the Blues are a rising club, having just won the Champions League last season and are competing for all trophies again this term.

Regardless, if an option to sign Lewandowski without offloading any of our current players is on the cards, it would be a dream move. But we would still have the issue to sell somebody due to the number of attackers in our squad. Thus, the hierarchy must think long and hard before going ahead with this deal.
