Transfer News: Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele stance amid Chelsea interest

According to Football Espana (h/t Express), FC Barcelona are set to make a final renewal offer to Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele and are planning to give the Frenchmen a bigger role to play in their Champions League campaign. 

The Frenchman was tipped to become a superstar of the game. However, his overall career at Barcelona has fallen short of expectations. While he has had his moments, Dembele has largely fallen prey to a slew of injuries.

This has limited his impact on the pitch. The winger has made just 122 appearances for the Catalans, scoring 30 goals and assisting 21 more. At the same time, he has missed 100 games due to injury.

Barcelona intends to keep hold of Ousmane Dembele amid Chelsea interest.

Despite his injury-ridden career, Dembele’s age still makes him a quality prospect in the market. It is believed that along with Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United have met with the young forward’s representatives recently to discuss a possible transfer deal. However, the concerned team’s intentions to land the starlet would be hurt knowing the Catalan team’s approach. 

It is believed that Barcelona manager Xavi is planning to start Dembele against Bayern Munich, where the Catalan team’s UCL hopes will be at stake. It suggests that the Blaugrana intend to put their faith in the French forward, which could be a sign of the renewed faith put in him.

Furthermore, Joan Laporta’s board is planning to make their final attempt to renew the French forward’s contract. With his contract set to expire next summer, they are facing a race against time to convince the winger.

The season so far has been good to Chelsea. However, on the attacking front, there are some concerns. Lukaku is yet to pick up his pace this season. At the same time, Werner has experienced a slow start while Christian Pulisic’s injuries have also added undue pressure.
