“The big picture”- Tuchel reveals what Chelsea need to do following stuttering form

Thomas Tuchel claims Chelsea have to improve their decision making after blip in form

Speaking in an interview, as quoted by the club’s official website, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel claimed that his players need to be better at decision making in crucial moments following a slight stutter in their form.

Until 10 days ago, the Blues were cruising at the top of the Premier League table and had handed Juventus their heaviest defeat in the Champions League. It felt like our side was going to go on an unassailable run, but that has not been the case.

A draw against Manchester United and a defeat to West Ham United has seen us drop to 3rd on the league table. Even our victory against Watford was quite fortunate. Tuchel has looked a disgruntled figure on the touchline, but he is apparently not too worried about the recent struggles.

Masters of your own destiny!

The German manager revealed that his players need to be better at making decisions in crucial moments. It is certainly in our best interests to cut down on the mistakes.

‘Nobody wants to make mistakes, but it won’t help if we just say “hey, don’t make mistakes anymore.” We have to go through it, and we need to be better in decision-making in crucial moments of matches to be able to have clean sheets or concede a maximum of one.’

Chelsea need to get their act together

The Blues boss admits that there is nothing to panic about and the difference lies in the details. He appears confident that the issue can be ironed out soon.

‘There is no need to question the big picture and no need for major doubts. In my opinion, it’s obvious why we did not have the result that we wanted against Man United and West Ham, so it’s about details. That’s why I think we can sort it out straight away.

Lot of work to do

Tuchel might not be alarmed about the recent form, but one must note that December was not too kind to Frank Lampard either last season. The Englishman had guided the club in and around the top of the table. But several defeats around the Christmas period and the turn of the year cost him his job.

Tuchel is unlikely to be sacked, given his pedigree, tactical nous, and recent success. However, he has several injury concerns that need to be resolved soon. Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante are yet to return, while Ben Chilwell could be out for quite a while. Jorginho is also playing through some pain at the moment.

Romelu Lukaku was also signed in the summer to guarantee goals, and the former PSG manager needs to find a way to facilitate the Belgian into his set-up. The 28-year-old was poor after coming on as a substitute against the Hammers on the weekend.

Regardless, the gaffer needs to address several issues. And if Tuchel hopes to lift the league title in May, it will take some doing to knock Liverpool and Man City off their perch. He has the squad to pull it off, but the Blues should stop shooting themselves in the foot to stand a chance.
