Speaking to Amazon Prime Video (h/t The Metro), Thomas Tuchel revealed that he is worried about the injury Chelsea ace Trevoh Chalobah suffered in the game against Watford.
The men in blue got out of jail on Wednesday night, and how. It was an eye-opening performance, and it was filled with several stoppages in play. While the players receieved a breather or two, their performances left much to be desired.
Watford were rough in their approach and were leaving down markers on Christian Pulisic. Tom Cleverley also crashed into Edouard Mendy at the hour-mark. However, one thing the camera failed to pick up during that incident was that Chalobah also went down on the half-line.
The defender had been pushed into midfield for the second half but came out worse during an aerial duel. He was taken off immediately, and something did not look right with him. Tuchel revealed his worry over the incident after the game.
‘The next game on Saturday, the most worried I am is about the injury for Trevoh Chalobah. The doctor was on the pitch 20 times today, it felt like. It’s a big loss from Trev. I’m a bit worried.’
Chalobah also posted a tweet after the game as the Englishman posted a sad emoticon, which did not instil a lot of confidence in the fans over his injury status.
To put the game into perspective, we were lucky to come away with just one injury. Had Mendy also been injured, our troubles would have been far worse than they are currently. However, the injury to Chalobah was in the making.
The 22-year-old was featuring in his 4th game in 11 days. There were signs of fatigue against Manchester United itself but Tuchel played the youngster against the Hornets and instead opted to give some rest to Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian was eventually brought into the game in the second half, and the English defender was moved into midfield. That meant a lot more running, and perhaps the toll of it resulted in him clutching his leg 15 minutes into the half.
Ben Chilwell, Mateo Kovacic, and N’Golo Kante were already out for the game. Concerns were also placed over Timo Werner, Jorginho, and Reece James, with the latter failing to make the trip to Vicarage Road. Thus, it makes sense why Tuchel is worried, especially since we are set to play 9 games in the next 30 days.
