Thomas Tuchel to hold meeting with Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku after “unhappy” comments
Thomas Tuchel has conveyed that he would hold a meeting with Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku following the latter’s comments suggesting he is “unhappy” at the club. The interview took place three weeks ago, but it was brought to the mix recently and has certainly created unwanted chaos for now.
Sky Sport Italia released a part of the interview on Thursday, where the 28-year-old has seemed to hint at displeasure with the coach. He expressed his worry about the current situation at Chelsea and how the system being used at Stamford Bridge is not getting the best out of him.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t The Athletic) [Subscription Required], Tuchel was adamant that we should not jump the gun and make assumptions as it is easy to take things out of context. However, he admitted that this does not help their case at all as it is an unwanted ruckus. He added that talks are set to be held to clarify the matter but stated how the Belgian’s actions indicate that he is happy with life with the Blues.
“We don’t like it of course because it brings noise that we don’t need and it’s not helpful. But on the other side we don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is. It’s very easy to take lines out of context, it’s very easy to shorten lines, make headlines, and later realise that it’s not bad, it’s not what you meant. It does not reflect the daily work, it does not reflect the behaviour Romelu displays at Cobham. We will do it [meeting] behind closed doors. We will do it openly.”
Silly from Lukaku
Unwanted headaches like this would impact us when we are trying our best to have a great season. We already have other issues to face such as an injury crisis, Covid outbreak and the recent slump in results, and this was the last thing that we needed. We have seen countless times how words get manipulated to make headlines but it does not help how Lukaku created an opportunity for it.
The German manager would know a great deal about what’s going on, and his words about the centre-forward during training gives us a sigh of relief. Even if the quotes were taken out of context, it is better to clear the air, and having a meeting would assist in doing so.
If the Belgian international had any issues with the formation, it should have been addressed directly with the Blues boss. Revealing any such problems to the media is never a good idea as it breaks the harmony within the team.
Moreover, a top player adjusts to whatever system he is played in and Lukaku is better off trying that rather than making a fuss about the situation. It is the least we can expect from our club-record signing.

It remains to be seen how the situation pans out in the coming days, and we hope that the matter is resolved as soon as possible. Let’s hope that this is another one of those cases where words are twisted to create talking points.
The timing of the quotes being released by the media is also suspicious given the winter transfer window opens very shortly. Whatever the case it may be, we are bound to get more information regarding the matter soon.
