Thiago Silva makes reassuring comments about Chelsea future and hails ‘incredible’ Thomas Tuchel amidst contract issues
Speaking to the club’s programme, as quoted by football.london, Thiago Silva lauded Thomas Tuchel and reiterated that he is going to continue working hard at Chelsea amidst a contract stalemate.
The Brazilian arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer. He was immediately bedded into the line-up by Frank Lampard as the centre-back formed a great partnership with Kurt Zouma. After the English boss was sacked, Silva continued to form a pivotal part of the squad under his former PSG boss, Thomas Tuchel.
The 37-year-old was crucial in the road to the club’s Champions League triumph and is proving integral in our race to win the league title this season. However, he shall be out of contract in the summer.
But the defender recently made some reassuring comments about his future at the West London club.
“If I did not have ambitions and dreams, then there is no way I would be where I am here at Chelsea. I’m here because I have got that desire to go out and win and achieve more things… So, right now, I am just working as hard as I can and putting everything into my desire to reach the end of my career with all those dreams and ambitions fulfilled.”
He also reserved special praise for Tuchel.
“Tuchel is an excellent coach. Tactically, technically, and on the mental side, he is first-rate, but the other thing about him is how he is as a human being. He really just is an incredible guy.”
Role model
The Brazilian has had a stellar career so far. However, it does not look like he is planning on throwing in the towel anytime soon. His performances this season have been nothing short of brilliant, while his calm stature is a necessity alongside an aggressive Antonio Rudiger.
The 37-year-old has also scored on multiple occasions this season, with his latest trade-mark header coming against West Ham at the London stadium. He has led the line from the back and has made crucial goal-line clearances as well. But it is his fitness that has been commendable, given that he is in his twilight years.
Chelsea would be hoping to tie him down to a new deal soon because the centre-back still has a lot left in the tank. It also bodes well for us that he has adjusted well to the new country and likes the manager and the systems he adopts.
