Premier League make massive decision over Chelsea vs Wolves game on Sunday

The Premier League fully intend for Chelsea to play their game against Wolves on Sunday despite Covid-19 concerns

According to Sun Sport, the Premier League remain committed that the Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers game will go ahead on Sunday unless there are additional Covid-19 concerns in the dressing room.

The Premier League are set to hold a virtual meeting on Monday with all 20 club chiefs. Despite the rising Covid-19 cases, the league are set to inform the clubs that they intend to go through with the games in the festive period.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters and other senior league bosses believe that the emergency measures taken, which include a daily lateral flow of tests to enter into the training ground could be enough to contain the virus and stop its spread.

However, two teams that did go ahead with their fixtures in mid-week were Chelsea and Liverpool, despite suffering multiple Covid-19 concerns to key personnel. In fact, both these teams are also set to play their fixtures on the weekend as well.

That is unless a dressing room wave causes more problems. The Blues are travelling to the Molineux to face Bruno Lage’s side on Sunday. Having dropped two points against Everton, this is a must-win game for the Blues.

Thoughtless decision?

The men in blue faced Everton on Thursday night without the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Ben Chilwell. N’Golo Kante and Trevoh Chalobah were also on the bench. Thus, while we still fielded a strong starting XI, we were missing major first-team stars.

The only players we could bring off the bench were Saul Niguez and Ross Barkley. Neither midfielder helped change the complexion of the game. Thus, a repeat of this on Sunday would mean that the Blues would be handicapped in yet another game.

At a time when we are experiencing a dip in form, it does not help that we are going ahead with games without our key men. It is an infuriating decision by the league, especially since every result counts in the title race.

Taking a minor break in the festive period could contain the spread. And give a much-needed rest to the clubs in the hectic fixture schedule. A 14-6 majority vote by the 20 clubs could temporarily close down the league, but even that decision might not be taken before Sunday.

Thus, the West London club would be travelling to the Midlands on the weekend as they look to pick up all three points against Bruno Lage & co.
