Team News: Leeds United suffer triple injury blow to key players before Chelsea clash
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Leeds United could have three key players out with injury for the clash against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
The Peacocks had a terrific 2020/21 season but have faltered massively in the current campaign. Leeds are currently 15th in the Premier League table and have only picked up three victories out of fifteen games.
Thus, the game against 3rd-placed Chelsea on the weekend is all the more important. However, Marcelo Bielsa has a couple of injury concerns after it was confirmed that Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford, and Liam Cooper will be out for the game at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder picked up an injury against Brentford and went straight down the tunnel after being substituted. The Englishman is thought to be out until February. Bamford, who secured a heroic equalizer against the Bees, suffered a knock while celebrating his goal. Cooper picked up a hamstring injury and would apparently be side-lined for a while.
Chelsea have their own problems
The Elland Road outfit might have a couple of issues, but the Blues also have them in abundance. Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante were unavailable for the clash against Zenit on Wednesday, and there is no guarantee whether any of them would return against Leeds.
Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah are also out injured. However, our attack is completely fit and firing, as evidenced by the 16 goals in the last 6 games. But we have only picked up 2 victories out of our last 5 league games.
Thus, Leeds could be interested in handing us another shock, especially since they are also battling relegation. Tuchel would be wary of the opponents, and he understands the importance of picking up a win on Saturday.
Liverpool will play at the same time as us, while Man City will play before us. If Wolves can defeat the Citizens and Aston Villa hand an upset to Liverpool at Anfield, we could take back our lead at the top of the league table this weekend.
