Jurgen Klopp compares Covid cases at Liverpool and Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp suggests Chelsea’s covid problems are far lesser than Liverpool

According to Metro, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Chelsea were pretty much able to field their first team whereas Liverpool had to play without key players against Tottenham Hotspur.

Five Premier League matches were postponed due to the surge in Covid cases. Liverpool and Chelsea’s matches were two out of three games that went ahead. Both teams had to play without some key players due to Covid isolations.

Thomas Tuchel had to field a team against Wolves without Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi. The former Paris Saint Germain manager was obliged to play N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, who might not have been ready for a clash after returning from a long term injury break.

On the other hand, Thiago Alcantara, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Jordan Henderson were unavailable for Jurgen Klopp against Tottenham.

Both teams faced setbacks and couldn’t work their way towards a win yesterday. The Blues only managed a nil-nil draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which saw them lose ground in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side was part of an eventful clash at Tottenham Hotspur stadium which resulted in a disappointing 2-2 draw for the visitors. To add to the German’s frustrations, several refereeing decisions went against his side.

The Liverpool boss went on to reveal that his team’s Covid scenario had worsened in the last week.

“As we always were, we were in contact with the Premier League; we tell them about our cases and the stuff that happens. In the first instance, we had three cases, and then two days later, Thiago was positive.”

Chelsea had to share the points last night with Wolves after a nil-nil draw.

The German manager also suggested that Thomas Tuchel were a far better position than him when choosing the starting line-up.

“The Premier League tells us these are pretty much the best numbers in the league; I saw Arsenal and Chelsea play, and they have, for me, their first line-ups, pretty much, on the pitch, but for us, it’s not exactly the same.”

Jurgen Klopp’s comments, however, contradict Chelsea’s current scenario. Thomas Tuchel had to start Christian Pulisic alongside Mason Mount. The 23-year-old hasn’t been consistent and fell from the German manager’s pecking order. The game against Everton was the 3rd full 90-min match for the USMNT forward this term.

Marcos Alonso, who played the whole match yesterday, isn’t part of Thomas Tuchel’s regular lineup this season. Trevoh Chalobah played in unknown territory in the midfield to fill up the void amid the absence of regular players.

The situation shows why Chelsea needs more depth in the squad. Even though there are bodies in the team, some players haven’t been up to the task in recent weeks. The German manager would need to find reinforcements in January to tackle the situation.
