“Done deal”-National coach reveals 23-year-old star has already joined Chelsea

Hungary coach Marco Rossi reveals Fenerbahce ace Attila Szalai has already agreed to join Chelsea

Speaking in an interview, as quoted by The Metro, Hungary coach Marco Rossi has revealed that Fenerbahce star Attila Szalai has already agreed to join Chelsea.

The 23-year-old’s performances at the international level under Rossi have been nothing short of brilliant. The centre-back has also done well at the Turkish club this season. However, it looks like the defender could already be heading for the exit door.

He has been linked with the Blues in recent weeks amidst their search for a central defender. It was claimed last month that the West London club had agreed to an initial €23.4million move.

Hungary manager Marcos Rossi has now revealed that Szalai has agreed a deal to join the Stamford Bridge club. He was asked which Hungary player could suit Serie A, and he went on to blurt the transfer details about his defender.

“It’s hard to name just one player, but right now I see very well Attila Szalai, who plays for Fenerbahçe, but I think he is joining Chelsea.

“Clearly, he has been followed by important clubs in Spain, but apparently, his move to Chelsea is a done deal. It would be a great player also for Italian football.”

Great move

Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen all out of contract in the summer. The same can be said for Cesar Azpilicueta, with Barcelona interested in signing the player, as per El Nacional (h/t The Metro). If even two out of these three players decide to leave, we could be facing a big problem at the back.

Thomas Tuchel has found success at Stamford Bridge on the foundation of an excellent defence. The backline rarely gives anything away, despite the recent stutter in form. Unless reinforcements are brought in, the Blues risk having to start Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah next season.

Thus, there is some sense regarding the links to Szalai. The Fenerbahce ace is of a good age profile and is eager to learn. He is also an unknown quantity, as compared to some other names we have been linked to, like Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt. Thus, it is interesting to see that the London club are approaching relative unknown like like the 23-year-old.

This is not an official announcement by any means, nor is it a confirmation of a deal. National managers often know the lay of the land around their players, but this is a claim that is from far left-field. Regardless, supporters can take some relief that at least something is happening behind the scenes.
