Transfer News: Gavi ready to pen new Barcelona contract amidst Chelsea interest
According to transfer news on Marca, via Sport Witness (h/t The Mirror), Spanish starlet, Gavi is keen on signing a new contract at Barcelona despite interest from Chelsea.
The 17-year-old has been one of the standout players at the Catalan club this season. He has played in 14 league games this term and has provided two assists during this period. In October, he also earned a call-up to the national team. He made his debut in the UEFA Nations League semi-final victory against Italy before being part of the team that lost to France in the final.
Thus, the youngster’s stock is rising, and the Blues are keen on sealing a deal for him. It is believed that the winger does have a £42.5million release clause in his contract. Talks over a new deal between the Blaugrana outfit and the player’s representatives were said to be delayed.
However, the Spanish ace and the club are confident of reaching an agreement. In fact, Gavi has apparently turned a ‘deaf ear’ to clubs that are trying to lure him away from the Nou Camp.
Minor blow
The La Masia product might be willing to sign a new deal, but it is a level playing field until an official announcement is made. The La Liga club had to part ways with Ilaix Moriba last summer. Xavier Mbuyamba also left them a couple of years, as he decided to join Chelsea.
Thus, there is every hope that Gavi could follow suit if Barcelona take a long time to open talks over a new deal. Moreover, if his performances continue to impress clubs around the continent, he could evaluate his future at his boyhood club.
The Blues do have quite a lot of talent in the frontline, but some stars could depart soon. Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are plotting a deal for Hakim Ziyech in January itself, according to SportBild via Sport Witness (h/t The Sun). The Spanish outfit are also targeting a move for Christian Pulisic, according to El Nacional (h/t ESPN).

Although unlikely, but if the duo do depart, there could be space to bring in a talented youngster, especially once that could benefit the club over the next decade or so. Till then, the West London club would be hoping that Gavi fails to sign a new deal.
