Fenerbahce have denied allegations that Attila Szalai has joined Chelsea following recent comments by Hungary coach Marco Rossi
According to a club statement (h/t The Sun), Fenerbahce denied the comments of Hungary coach Marco Rossi stating that Attila Szalai has already agreed to a deal to join Chelsea.
The Blues are facing quite a conundrum in their backline with four of their main centre-backs in Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta, out of contract in the summer.
If even one of them leaves the club, Chelsea could dip into the transfer market to sign a replacement. The London club have been linked with Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai. His national team coach, Marco Rossi, recently stated that the centre-back’s move to the Premier League club is a ‘done deal.’
However, the Turkish club have now denied these allegations and are understandably furious with the comments. They put out a club statement, stating (h/t The Sun):
“The allegations regarding the transfer of our player Attila Szalai, which have been made public in the last few days, based on foreign press and social media, do not reflect the truth.
“Our club has not made any transfer negotiations regarding our successful football player Attila Szalai. Our player continues his work completely concentrating on the goals of our team. We present it to the public.”
Does not rule out a potential move
The Super Lig club might have denied these rumours for now but things could change in the January transfer window. The men in blue are looking to add to their ranks as Thomas Tuchel is not keen on taking a risk with any of his out-of-contract defenders.
Szalai has been brilliant for Fenerbahce and has excelled for Hungary too. He is still only 23 and could develop into a world-beater someday. Moreover, he is thought to be available for only £20million, quite a bargain, given his talent and potential.
The Hungary international is also a relatively unknown prospect as he is yet to play in Europe’s Top 5 Leagues. But that is not a disadvantage since we possess a world-class manager that can hone the talent of such players.
