It was a woeful night at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea drew 1-1 against Everton to lose ground in the title race.

The Toffees were there for the taking, but our men could not step up on the night. Rafa Benitez was coming into the game without a recognized centre-forward and a half-hearted defence. Thomas Tuchel had his own worries as Kai HavertzTimo Werner, and Romelu Lukaku were unavailable for the match.

Yet the Blues put out a starting XI strong enough to defeat a beleaguered Everton side. The first half went by in a flash as the men in blue could not conjure anything meaningful. They kept the lion’s share of possession, but the only clear-cut chance was when Mason Mount found himself eye to eye with Jordan Pickford, and the shot-stopper pulled out a brilliant save.

Just not good enough?

Tuchel had to change something at half-time, and he did. The West London club started playing without a No 9 as every attacker started switching amongst themselves in a false nine role. But that failed to change the complexion of the game. The gaffer then brought on Saul Niguez and Ross Barkley to put more men in midfield.

5 minutes later, Chelsea were on a counter-attack, and Reece James found Mount in open space on the right-hand side. The playmaker took one touch and slammed the ball past Pickford to give the hosts the lead. Unfortunately, 4 minutes later, Jarrad Braithwaite scored from a free-kick as the Blues conceded for the 6th game in a row.

The Stamford Bridge crowd tried to cheer their side on to the winner in the dying minutes and hopefully recreate what happened against Leeds United on the weekend. But the Merseyside club hung on and churned out a draw. This result now sees us 4 points off Man City and three points off Liverpool.

Let us now see how some of our fans reacted on Twitter to the awful performance on the night.
